BBC 1’s new tv series The Big Painting Challenge will search for Britain’s best amateur painter over six challenges filmed in different locations around the country.
Airing for the first time on Sunday February 22nd at 6pm The Big Painting Challenge will see renowned actress and amateur artist Una Stubbs joining forces with BBC Radio 5 live presenter and avid art collectorRichard Bacon to lead a nationwide search for Britain’s best amateur artist in a new BBC One TV programme The Big Painting Challenge
Among the challenges will be a visit to Alnwick Castle in Northumberland; at London’s Southbank, the second episode includes Portraiture with celebrities sitting including much-loved EastEnders’ stars Rudolph Walker, who plays Patrick Trueman and actress Pam St Clement, famous for playing the role of Pat Butcher. The third episode on Still Life is at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, with artists depicting its stunning architecture. The next episode moves to Tate Britain, where the amateur artists a given the challenge of painting human form and movement. Later episodes come from Liverpooland finally Dartmouth Royal Naval College, in Dartmouth Harbour.
Alongside the tv programme the BBC is launching The Little Picture Challenge. This UK-wide competition launches on Tuesday 17th February and is aimed at giving everyone the chance to emulate the artists featured in the series and inspire the nation to get making art themselves.
