About the artist:
Alan lives in Worcester, and took early retirement to enable him to concentrate more on painting and search for subjects and landscapes both in this country and abroad.
Much of his working career was spent as Design Director for a large Midlands based Curtain Walling company, working on large construction projects at home and abroad.
The last few years were spent as an Architects Advisor with an International Aluminium Systems company working closely with major UK Architects.
Alan is Website Manager for prestigious Birmingham Watercolour Society & Hon Secretary . He is also a member of the Wolverhampton Society of Artists and Worcester Society of Artists.
During November 2009, Alan was elected as a member of the Easel Club of Birmingham, a club founded in 1879 by great professional artists Edmund Watson & Walter Langley.
He paints using watercolour, & pen and wash, with emphasis on the initial drawing, and has enjoyed more recent success & satisfaction painting in soft pastel.
He enjoys the freedom that pastels give, being able to express himself using bright vibrant colours, and being able to overlay colours to produce exciting textures.
Many of his works are held in collections in USA, Hong Kong, Europe and UK, including a pastel painting selected by the House of Lords selection committee in 2008 for inclusion in their new building Fielden House London.
Apart from sketching and painting, he also enjoys digital photography, and visiting Galleries gaining inspiration from his favourite artists, David Curtis, John Yardley, Norman Smith, John Hammond, Edward Seago, Edward Wesson, Chris Forsey & Rowland Hilder.
