About the artist:

Jemi is a freelance botanical artist and tutor

Her passion for plants and botanical illustration began whilst playing in her father’s allotment, she loved to watch the plants develop and grow. Now, each plant she paints is a new challenge.
She  strives to understand its anatomy and to capture its character, frozen in a fleeting moment of time.

She finds it thrilling when a fresh flower or juicy fruit is placed in front of her. Using translucent, glowing watercolours on paper or vellum enables me to make strong contrasts between light and dark, creating silent dramas on the page.

Following a career as a knitwear designer, she was lucky enough to be able to turn her passion for watercolour into a full time occupation. Now living in Warwickshire, she tutors workshops for adults on all aspects of botanical art and regularly exhibits her paintings at Warwickshire Open Studios.

Jeni  has some of her work in the collection of Shirley Sherwood and the Hunt Institute in Pittsburgh, U.S.A.
