About the artist:
Lawrence has always had a love of mountains and in his youth, he was inspired to paint them in oils. Although drawing and painting took a back seat when his career took over, his interest in art continued and he still spent as much of his leisure time as possible in the mountains. All the time observing the effect of light on the landscape and gathering photographic reference material for painting at a later date.
Lawrence retired in 2018 and soon turned to watercolour as a means of expressing his connection with the mountain and coastal landscapes of Britain. His style is realist, aiming to manipulate tone, hue and saturation to give the viewer an insight that is more immediate and true to the landscape, than could be obtained from the reference photographs from which he works.
Lawrence is not a professional artist but does exhibit his work, most regularly at the RBSA
