About the artist:
Tony originally lived in Birmingham, and now resides in South Worcestershire having made the move forty five years ago.
He is a self taught artist and has exhibited locally and also in and around Birmingham.
Tony chose to work in Watercolour ‘in the field’ mainly, in a loose and impressionistic manner, rapidly attempting to capture some quickly passing experience that excites him. This admirably suits his temperament, and he deliberately tries to introduce an element of energy and even rawness alongside a certain lack of definition to encourage the viewer to participate in his own interpretation of the subject.
I seek to allow my work to change and develope continuously, and contact with other members of the Birmingham Watercolour Society certainly aids this process enormously.
In contrast to his impressionistic paintings he also produces graphite and pen & ink drawings sometimes tinted with a watercolour wash and depending on the subject hopefully treated with some humour. These he finds far less demanding than his main style.
The subject matter tends to dictate which approach he chooses.
