ROYAL MINIATURE SOCIETY 125TH EXHIBITION

BWS Member Christina Hopkinson has four of her splendid miniature watercolours on show at this years 125th Exhibition at the Mall Galleries London.

She had the opportunity of visiting the show on Thursday  and reports back some interesting facts…

“It was a fabulous occasion and the prize giving was performed by Geoffrey Munn OBE MVO FSA FLS from the Antiques Roadshow who went on to explain the close relationship between the painting of miniatures and goldsmiths and jewellers. Apparently, someone of high status, for example Queen Elizabeth 1, would okay the portrait miniature painted of her and then that would be given to the jeweller to set in precious jewels and a brooch would be created.
This brooch would be worn with great pride by the recipient and would indicate his loyalty and favourable status with the monarch.

Here are the four paintings which were accepted and you can see me here standing beside the cabinet. The camera has distorted the elliptical paintings which now appear round, but it gives an idea of the scale of the paintings.”

Good luck Christina!
